Local residents and students today prevented an attempt to smuggle 50 cows and bulls from being smuggled to Kerala in lorries near Chettipalayam.

Based on reports of cattle being smuggled through the city from various parts of the State, students and locals maintained vigil in the area and noticed two lorries moving at Kanjipalayam this morning and immediately stopped them and rescued the animals.

On information, police rushed to the spot and seized the cattle.

Further investigations are on with the lorry crew. The residents cautioned the drivers to not indulge in such heinous activities in future.
