Chennai: Actor Raghava Lawrence, who is championing the cause of Jallikattu and its supporters, has fervently appealed pro-Jallikattu protesters who have assembled at Marina to give up the protest and return home as the avowed aim of reviving Jallikattu has already been achieved.

The actor, who had been extending a helping hand to the protesters, made his appearance in a charged-up atmosphere at Marina, the venue of the feverish protests and earnestly appealed to the protesters to disperse, but in vain.

“The Tamil Nadu Governor has made it clear in his speech in the floor of the Assembly that a permanent solution has been found for the Jallikattu ban, with the ordinance passed. So let all us understand that it is time for jubilation and not for continuing the protest any further. The protesters in Alanganallur and Palamedu have accepted the Government’s request to give up the protest and disperse, let us follow their example,” Raghava Lawrence said. He reasserted the same appeal in the press meet held later.

Another actor, RJ Balaji, staunch supporter of Jallikattu himself, has also appealed to the protesters to give up the protest and disperse from the Marina venue.

But it is learnt that a section of the protesters has not heeded the two actors’ appeal and are continuing with the protest, despite police using force to disperse them this morning.

In the meanwhile, Jallikattu organisers in Alanganalluar and Palamedu have announced that the stalled Jallikattu event in both these popular Jallikattu centres would be organised on February 1 and 2 respectively.
