As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) ACC Cements Works today launched Vidyasarathi Educational Scholarship Scheme for the benefit of students.
The Rs. 20 lakh worth scholarship will directly benefit 102 students UG (40), ITI (20), Diploma (30) and Engineering (12). The scheme proposed to effectively bring the corporate and educational institutes in the education eco-system, K Vamshidhar Reddy, Director Plant, said at the launch.
The technology-based education scholarship is being implemented as part of the Coimbatore Corporations’ Social Capital initiative, which will be implemented in association with e-Governance Infrastructure Ltd, and EduDharma (online crowd funding platform for education), he said.
Launching the scheme, Corporation Commissioner Dr. K Vijayakarthikeyan said that this was a unique scheme, as it was giving an opportunity to the students to design their future.”The social capital has also proposed to bring out such scheme in sports sector also, since there are many talented students, who cannot come to limelight for want of funds,” he said.
Stating that the Corporation has launched a transparent online scheme earlier also like construction of toilets for the people, making the city open defecation free, he said the city, which ranked 196 out of 500 in cleanliness in 2015, reached 18th spot last year.
“Of the targeted 2,000 to 2,500 toilets, Social Capital could construct 3,252 toilets so far”, he said
He expressed hope that with more initiatives under Swachh Bharat Mission, the City would climb up the ladder during this year.
Giving details of the scheme, Manager CSR, ACC, G S Shyamsunder said that Vidyasarathi team would visit all the registered institutions and create awareness about the scholarship and support the students in filling up the on-line application form.
The students can submit their online application till June 30 and the screening, assessment and physical verifications of the students will be part of the process and the scholarship will be awarded in the month of September, he said.
