A 28-year-old Ganja peddler from Theni was booked under the Goondas Act on Wednesday for his constant involvement in the illegal sale of ganja.

According to police, D. Ranjithkumar, hailing from Varasanadu Singarajapuram in Theni, was arrested on Saturday for reportedly distributing ganja to college students of institutions along the border of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Ranjithkumar, who was residing at Anbu Nagar in Podanur, was arrested after a tip-off from P.Y. Shafi (22), A.D. Dhiljith (22) from Kerala and Santharaj (38) Pillaiyarpuram who were arrested earlier that day at Eechanari Check Post on Pollachi Road border for possessing ganja. A car they used for transport was also seized by the police.

Since Ranjithkumar was a repeat history sheeter in ganja peddling and many cases were pending against him in districts including Coimbatore and Tirupur, City Police Commissioner A. Amalaraj suggested that the District Administration book him under the Goondas Act.

Ranjithkumar who was at Coimbatore Central Prison was transferred to the Convicts’ quarters.
