Life is not easy for folks in the media. With one deadline after the other, they are constantly under tremendous pressure. There are no fixed lunch breaks or rest time. Next time you pick up the newspaper in the morning and skim through the headlines, think about the teams of professionals who had worked the night before to get the paper on time. This holds good for the television channels and the radio stations too.

Giving the media-people a much-deserved welcome break through sports is a Cricket Tournament, exclusively for the media professionals, organized by an educational institution in the city. “Working for the media is more than just stressful. I’m from the media and have experienced this highly-charged life for a number of years. Through the cricket tournament organized by our group, we are aiming at giving the media professionals some time to relax, chill and unwind.” V. Palaniappan, one of the organizers, said.

The launch party for this edition of cricket tournament was organized at a hotel in the city. Members of the various participating teams received their kits and jerseys. “Eight teams will play against each other in two groups. Each team shall have about 15 members – 11 players and four substitutes. This is a 20-over match format. The matches will be played on Sundays,” Dr. Albert Prem Kumar, Director of Physical Education Department said.

The tournament will conclude on October 2. All are invited to watch the matches. Entry is free.
