Union minister for Science and Technology, Harshavardhan, would not have realized that his remark on the “yeoman services being rendered by ‘Amma’ in south India” would create such a huge confusion among the partymen, especially when Tamil Nadu is busy playing guessing games on political alliances.

Harshavardhan, who had come to Coimbatore for a two day visit, attended the convocation ceremony of Amritha University. While talking about the educational institutions run by Mata Amritanandamayi in South India, he said that Amma was giving more importance to higher education and was running high standard educational institutions. He continued lauding the achievements of Amma, much to the confusion of the party workers since the state BJP was wasting no opportunity to condemn the AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu, led by J. Jayalalithaa, popularly addressed as Amma.

Sensing the confusion, Harshavardhan quickly clarified that he was referring to Mata Amritanandamayi, and not the political leader.
