Lorry falls into deep gorge

A carrot-laden lorry fell into a 30-feet gorge at Furnhill, near Udhagamandalam, injuring at least 20 workers, five of them seriously.

The lorry was negotiating a turn when the steering wheel got jammed and the driver lost control of the vehicle. Local villagers rescued the workers who were trapped in the fallen vehicle. The seriously injured, including a woman, were taken to the Coimbatore General Hospital.
