Miscreants broke open the house of an Assistant Elementary Educational Officer (AEEO) near Peravurani in broad day light on Wednesday and made away with 30 sovereigns gold and Rs. 3.84 lakh cash.

The AEEO, Ravichandran, resident of the Second Pulikadu area near Peravurani, and his wife, Rani, working as Agriculture Officer, reportedly withdrew Rs 3.84 lakh from bank on Wednesday afternoon and returned to their work places after keeping the money in the safe in their house.

Taking advantage of their absence, miscreants gained entry into the house through the rear door after breaking open its lock, and took away the cash and jewels.

The burglary came to light when the couple returned home late evening. On being informed, a police team attached to Sethubavachatram police station inspected the scene of crime and conducted enquiry. Based on a complaint, police have registered a case.

Police suspect that the culprits would have followed the couple from the bank till the house.
