Protesting against the State Government to fulfill their 20 point agenda, members of the Tamil Nadu Rural Development Officials’ Association (TNRDOA) who attempted to besiege the BSNL office near State Bank Road in the city were arrested here on Friday.

More than 150 members of the association who gathered in front of the BSNL office said that the State Government should immediately conduct the local body polls and poll related works should be given importance.

They also urged the State Government to fill in the vacancies in the rural administration department, including Secretaries.

Demanding an increase in the salary of the workers, they said that the salaries should be given in accordance with the High Court ruling dated 26.02.2011.

“A special officer should also be deputed to monitor and improvise the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Development Scheme,” they said.

The members who staged the demonstration were arrested and later released in the evening.
