Over fifty cadres of Hindu outfit Bharath Sena courted arrest demanding total prohibition in Tamil Nadu. The team led by urban district secretary (youth wing) Nanda said the High Court directive to close down all liquor outlets in State and National Highways had not been followed in letter and spirit. There were violations and TASMAC outlet sales were being done through the backdoor even when the shops were closed.
Alleging that clandestine sale of liquor was on, Nanda alleged that the working hours of TASMAC outlets were not being followed strictly. Though the stipulated time for opening these outlets was at noon, most of them were working clandestinely for 24 hours, he added.
“If the Government is bent on opening new TASMAC outlets in Coimbatore’s crowded neighbourhoods, the Bharath Sena will mount an agitation for the closure of these shops,” Nanda said.
