The never ending parking woes of R.S. Puram

With the number of vehicles increasing by the day, parking has become a major problem in the city. The problem is manifold at RS Puram.

Vehicles parked on either sides of the roads (even at no parking zones) is a common sight in RS Puram, considered to be an important business area. Navigating the traffic at Diwan Bahadur Road and other roads that lead to RS Puram is a big challenge for motorists.

Though the City Police decided to implement one side parking on alternate months, the plan is yet to take off.
According to P. Vijayakumar, who had come to RS Puram for shopping, parking woes would turn away shoppers from the area. “People prefer malls these days as they house many shops and more than anything ample parking lots are available,” he said.

Vishnu Raj, a student, who had come to a bank said people are forced to park even in no parking zones. “It is a huge task to find a right parking space here,” he said.

A. Manoj, a civic rights activist, alleged that the Corporation’s parking space at the south end of DB Road was the only public parking lot available there. “Though it has been marked as Corporation space for parking, no information regarding the contractor or parking fare is displayed there,” he said.

The Corporation Commissioner, Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan, had recently told The Covai Post that a multi level parking was being planned in Diwan Bahadur Road.
