A 50-year-old elephant that was found in a weak condition at Sirumugai Forest Range and treated by veterinarians on Wednesday, was found dead today near the backwaters of Bhavani Sagar area.

According to Forest officials, who were on their rounds in the forest area, they found the elephant lying near the riverbed. “The elephant was very weak yesterday. It could not even get up. It must have come back here to drink water. But had fallen down and died. It is a natural death,” said E.N Manoharan, Sirumugai Forest Ranger.
