Shimoga: Karnataka Excise Department has got first success in using the drone technology on Thursday as the officials successfully detected marijuana crops in Soraba Taluk in Shivamogga district. The plants were grown along with corn, ginger and areca nut crops at Sarekoppa village.
After detecting marijuana through drone, Deputy Commissioner of District Excise, Y. R. Lokesh and his team raided the place immediately and seized 8 kgs of marijuana.
Later he said that a rigorous campaign had been launched by the department to curb drugs menace and drones would be used effectively to achieve it.
“The first success came in Soraba Taluk on Thursday,” he added. Local police sub-inspector Dayanand said that a case has been registered against Benavana Nagappa and Basavaraja, the owners of the land.
