Bengaluru: If you are planning to buy Mysore Silk sarees this Independence Day, make sure, you carry your Aadhaar card to the store.
The Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Ltd (KSIC) has made it mandatory for the buyers to produce Aadhaar card while buying sarees that are being sold at a discounted price on Independence Day and Varamahalakshmi festival that falls on August 24.
Sarees that are priced at Rs 7,000 will be available at Rs 4,000 on August 15 and on August 24, sarees worth RS 15,000 will be sold at Rs 4,000, reports The New Indian Express. This is being done to ensure that buyers don’t fall prey to middlemen.
Also, to ensure that the same buyer does not avail the same offer for the next five years. Qyoting Minister Sa Ra Mahesh, The New Indian Express reported that “We made Aadhaar compulsory to buy the sarees to avoid misuse of the scheme.”
But he admitted that it would not be easy to keep track of the buyer in case of re-sale of sarees. However, the discounted sarees will be available only at selecte stores – Bengaluru, Mysuru, Channapatna and Davangere.
