Bengaluru: The State government has taken up relief works on a war footing to rebuild rain-ravaged Kodagu. Gas geysers and gas cylinders are being supplied to relief centres provide hot water to the victims.
Relief materials are being supplied to all gram panchayats and urban local bodies from five godowns set up in the district. However, it has come to light that flood-hit victims still need tarpaulins and plastic bags. Besides, the Food and Civil Supplies Deputy Director has been directed to ensure availability of LPG cylinder, gas geysers, petrol and diesel.
As rain recedes in Kodagu district, schools and colleges will be re-opened. But as many as 61 schools in flood-hit areas will remain shut.The government has initiated measures to distribute 5,000 schoolbooks and classes are conducted in relief camps for children.
Meanwhile, the government is identifying the land to provide rehabilitation to the victims. Also, duplicate copies of documents will be issued to those who have lost all their documents in the heavy rainfall.
