Bengaluru: The practice of ‘bettala seve’ (nude worship) continues unabated in a town in Gadag district, even though it has been banned by the state government. On July 3, the banned ritual reportedly took place at Durga Devi temple located on the outskirts of Lakshmeshwara town, reported thestate.news.
According to the report, two women covered in neem leaves marched a distance of one kilometre.
The procession, accompanied by beating of drums, allegedly passed right in front of the local police station, causing dismay among several people. The priest and two women who took part in the ritual are likely to be booked, as officials visited the town on receiving information about the incident. But locals are reluctant to speak about the incident, the report said.
