A 11-year old girl was sexually attacked and murdered by a young man, who attempted to commit suicide by slashing his neck, at Manamaduri in Sivaganga district.

The victim was a class VI student. Police sources said that the youth, 22-year-old Karthikeyan, had kidnapped her from the school and killed her, before dumping her body near a farm.

When the girl did not return from school, her worried parents filed a complaint with the police. A district-wide search was launched. While searching in a village near Manamadurai, the cops found Karthikeyan bleeding heavily through a slash wound in his neck. They immediately rushed him to the hospital where he is currently being treated.

The lifeless body of the victim was also recovered and sent for post-mortem.

Preliminary investigations have confirmed that the accused lived near the victim’s house, and had sexually attacked the child before murdering her. The police are waiting for the accused to gain consciousness, in order to find out the motive for the assault and murder.
