Two persons from Kerala capital Thiruvananthapuram were arrested and remanded in custody on charges of attempting to pass on a pen drive to Maoists lodged in the Central Prison here.

Harihara Sharma and Rasheed came to meet Maoists, particularly Anup, and wanted to hand over some clothes with police permission last evening.

While frisking them before being allowing inside, the jail officials found a pen drive hidden in the bundle of clothes and alerted seniors, who confiscated the device and handed it over to authorities.

After interrogation, police produced the duo before a Judicial Magistrate court this morning and were remanded in judicial custody for 15 days, police said.

Cases have been registered on charges of attempting to bring banned articles inside the jail, preventing a public servant from carrying out his official duty and also for threatening the Government servant, they said.

Both are lodged in the central jail here, police added.
