25 persons volunteer to donate organs

A total of 25 persons today volunteered to donate their organs in the city and registered their name, as part of Organ Donation Day, being celebrated in the country today.

Rotaract Club of SNR Sons College here has initiated “Organ Donation Project – A Gift of Life”. Volunteers, with consent from their parents, signed the necessary documents and handed over to the Dean of the Sri Ramakrishna Hospital Dr. Sukumaran, a hospital release said.

More than five lakh persons are dying every year in India just because of the failure of their major functioning organs anytime.

One donor can save more than eight lives by providing them to those who need them, particularly liver, kidney and heart, the release said.
