3.34 lakh children to be given polio drops in Coimbatore

Coimbatore, Jan 19 : As against 3.33 lakh children being given polio drops last year in Coimbatore, this year it was estimated at 3.34 lakh children,
Tamil Nadu Municipal Administration minister, S P Velumani said on Sunday.

Talking to reporters after inaugurating the pulse polio camp at the Government hospital here for the  below five years, Velumani said 1,581 centres have been set up in the district, of which 1,202 are in rural areas. 

Besides 18 special mobile units, 30 cenres are functioning at places, where there is larger public concentration like railway stations, bus stands
air port and places of worship, he said.

A total of 6,536 workers, drawn from health department and anganawadi are involved in the camps, where high quality and safe drops, recognised by WHO, will be given, he said.

The district collector, K Rajamani and Hospital dean Dr Ashokan were among those district officials were present at the camp.
