3477 kg plastic materials seized

Corporation officials seized 3477 kg plastic materials below 50 micron from various shops in the city.
During the raids conducted between June 17 and 23 in 610 retail and wholesale shops in all Corporation zones, materials such as cups, carry bags made of plastic below 50 micron (that have been banned in the city from May 1) were seized.
A fine of Rs.1,11,050 was collected from shopkeepers for violating rules and they were advised to use eco-friendly bags in future.
Corporation Commissioner Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan has ordered the officials to conduct periodical raids and advice the shop keepers to cooperate with the authorities to maintain the city plastic free.
