50 per cent solatium handed over to SC victim’s family

Coimbatore : The Vice Chairman of National Commission for SC/ST, L Murugan today handed over Rs 4,12 lakh to the family of Varshini Priya, who became the victim of the ‘honour killing’ in nearby Mettupalayam.

The amount was 50 per cent of the Rs 8.25 lakh solatium given to such victims under Prevention of Atrocities against SC/ST and the order for this was handed over to the parents at the Government Hospital, where Murugan came to console the family.

He said that the demands put forward by the family such as speedy trial in the case and stringent punishment for the murderers, a government job for one of the family members and one green house, will be considered.

Police department has been asked to speed up the process in the case and give justice to the deceased, Murugan, accompanied by the District Collector K Rajamani said.
