A 54-year-old man was beaten to death by his neighbour due to previous enmity in Pollachi.

The victim, Shaktivel, and his neighbour Ramesh used to quarrel often over a number of issues. An argument had broken out yesterday too, which led to a fist fight at Kurumbapalayam.

Ramesh overpowered Shaktivel and tied up the latter’s hands. He then went on to tie Shaktivel to a pole and continued to beat him up until the latter fainted. Ramesh then admitted himself to the government hospital, claiming that Shaktivel had attacked him with a knife.

Shaktivel’s lifeless body, tied to the pole, was recovered by the police after passersby noticed it and informed them. The body was sent for postmortem to the government hospital. During inquiries, the police found out about the long-standing feud between Shaktivel and Ramesh. Ramesh admitted to have tied Shaktivel to the pole after sustaining knife injuries.

Police have taken Ramesh and his mother into custody for further investigations.
