6 kg ganja seized, one held in Coimbatore

Police seized 6 kg of ganja from a person in the city late last night.

Police on night rounds were engaged in vehicle checking and seeing them two youths on a motorcycle sped without stopping in Ukkadam.

When police chased them, they abandoned the vehicle and escaped.However, one person was nabbed. Police noticed a bag and found three packets of ganja, each weighing 2 kg, in it and took the person to the station.

Preliminary inquiry revealed that the youth, Umar, hailed from Ottapalam in Kerala and was staying in a room in Kovaipudur in the city. He said a person who sought a lift from Singanallur had given the bag for holding and kept it in the front pouch, they said.

A couple of days ago, police had seized 20 kg ganja from two persons, including a woman from Madurai, at the Central Bus stand. On this basis, strict vigil was being kept to ascertain the source of supply and destinations.
