68th Republic Day celebrations in the city

The District Collector, T N Hariharan, today unfurled the National Flag to mark the 68th Republic Day celebrations in the district.

Hariharan received the salute from police at the customary ceremonial parade and presented the Chief Minister’s Medals to 76 police personnel for their meritorious services. He distributed welfare measures worth Rs. 5.03 crore to 416 beneficiaries and also honoured a few freedom fighters by adorning them with shawls.

Meanwhile, the City Corporation Commissioner, K Vijayakarthikeyan, garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi as part of the celebrations.

A total of 30 staff, who had completed 25 years of service, were presented with Rs. 2,000 each on the occasion.

Vijayakarthikeyan also released a pamphlet to create awareness among the public to use water judiciously.

Unfurling the Tricolour at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Vice-Chancellor Dr K Ramasamy said that TNAU was the only agricultural university in India listed in global rankings.
