Chennai: The ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu claimed that more than 70 people died of shock after hearing that the former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was no more.

In a party statement, the AIADMK claimed that a total of 77 functionaries from across the state died due to deep sorrow and shock after their party chief died on December 5 in Chennai.

Expressing grief, the AIADMK said that Rs. 3 lakh each will be given to the families of the victims. In addition, the party also announced a payment of Rs. 50,000 to a cadre who attempted self-immolation in Cuddalore district.

Likewise, Rs. 50,000 will be given to one Mahali of Tirupur district who cut his fingers after hearing about Jayalalithaa’s demise.
