Coimbatore : Sulur, which went to by-poll Sunday registered 79.41 per cent polling of the total 2,95,158 voters, showing an increase of 3.81 per cent from 2016 elections.
The polling was brisk since morning and there were long queues, particularly women voters.
There was a technical snag in one of the EVMs in Karumathampatti, due to which the polling was delayed by 30 minutes which was compensated by extending the poll time till 6.30 PM.
A 103-year-old woman, Thulasimmal was one of the earliest voters in Papampatti booth.
There was a mild argument between security forces and a few persons, who wore saffron and green dhotis as part of their pilgrimage. They were not being allowed to enter the polling booth for casting their votes. However, the issue was sorted out and they were allowed to exercise their democratic right, official sources said.. District Collector K Rajamani visited some of the booths.
