840 kg banned tobacco products seized

Coimbatore : Food safety department officials today seized 840 kg of banned tobacco products, including gutka,from a vehicle that came to the city from Bengaluru.

Based on a tipoff, the officials carried out search in the minivan parked on Raja Street and seized the tobacco products in the early hours, police said. The value of the seizure is being assessed, they said.
As the van driver fled from the scene, police managed to nab a person in the vehicle and interrogations were on, they said.
