In a novel and thoughtful initiative, the traffic wing of the Coimbatore City Police Department has planned to literally teach a lesson to people driving rashly here on New Year’s Eve.
“There will be temporary shamianas (tent) set up at a few important places in the city and those who indulge in rash driving will be held there,” said an official.
Once they are brought here, the detainees will undergo interactive and informative sessions for which the department has sought the help of NGOs in Coimbatore. According to Police, the initiative is meant to reprimand rash drivers in a light, yet effective way.
“The NGO members will engage or entertain them with motivational sessions,” police said.
Those who are interested in joining the initiative may contact GS Anitha, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore South on 9498176444.
