‘Action against those not paying increased payment to sanitation workers’

COIMBATORE: Action will be taken against those, who are not paying increased salary to the sanitation workers in civic bodies, member of National Commission for Safai Karamchari Jagadish Hiremani said on Monday.

“It has come to the notice that the workers have not been paid the increased emoluments so far by the Corporation, municipalities and panchayats and a portion of the salary has allegedly been swindled by the contractors themselves,” Hiremani told reporters here,.

Stringent action will be taken against the officials and contractors, who are depriving payment to the sanitation workers, he said adding that the commission has recommended to the Government for appointing sanitation workers at the ratio of 500:1.

Hiremani, here to carry out inspection on the progress on the survey with regard to human waste collection, said that depending on the success of Kerala, where robots were used for the purpose, the Centre will be asked to replicate the model to other parts of the Country.

Terming the firing incident in Thoothudkudi as unfortunate, Hiremani said that he will be visiting there and carry out inquiry for two days.
