Action plan to prevent Kerala from building dam across Siruvani

Coimbatore : A delegation of various parties and organisations will visit Sholayur, where Kerala is reportedly constructing a check dam across the Siruvani, the main drinking water source of the region. The team was expected to visit the place on March 7.

The decision was taken at an all-party meeting held here today. It was convened to adopt measures to prevent the attempt of Kerala to construct a dam, which would lead to acute water shortage to the region.

In a resolution adopted at the meeting, it was decided to visit the area on March 7 and also meet the Kerala Chief Minister in this regard.

The meeting, held at DMK district headquarters and chaired by Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhakam general secretary K Ramakrishnan, also decided to stage a massive demonstration in the city by gathering nearly one lakh people in the region.

Among those who attended the meeting were DMK MLA and urban party south secretary N Karthik, Congress leaders Mayura Jayakumar and V C Manoharan and representatives of MDMK, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal, DMDK, SDPI, KMDK, AAP and ApoliticalFarmers Association.
