Actor among three detained under Goondas Act

Coimbatore : Shruthi alias Mythili Venkatesh, a small time actor, who was arrested on charges of cheating some persons on the promises of marriage, was today detained under the Goondas Act.

Shruthi was arrested along with her father Prasanna Venkatesh, mother Chitra and brother Subash, following complaint from one Balamuguran of Salem, an NRI engineer and one of the victims, in January that he was cheated of Rs 41 lakh.

Getting in touch through a matrimony website. Balamurugan gave her Rs.41 lakh between May 24, 2017, and January 1, 2018, towards medical expenses of her mother.

Further investigations revealed that the family had cheated seven persons in Chennai, Thirumangalam, Nagapattinam, Salem and Coimbatore to the tune of Rs 2 crore under the pretext of marriage.

Based on her earlier record, Shruthi, lodged in the Central Jail here along with her parents, was detained under Goondas Act.
