The Election Commission has announced that polling at Aravaikurichi assembly constituency in Karur district has been postponed following allegations that money was distributed to the voters.

The election has been rescheduled on May 23. The results will be declared on May 25.

Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni said that the decision was made following widespread complaints that money, gifts and liquor were being distributed to the voters of Aravakurichi assembly constituency. 7 FIRs were received in this regard. In one incident, when officers rushed to the spot to arrest a man who was distributing money, he fled, leaving behind nearly Rs.70,000.

According to Lakhoni, the polling has been postponed by a week in order to reduce the influence of money on the voter’s decision.
