Coimbatore: Seeking support of people for early release of her son, Perarivalan and six others convicted in Rajiv Gandhi Assassination case, Arputhammal on Thursday began Tamil Nadu wide tour.

Even after four and half months of the Supreme Court order to consider the mercy petition, the Tamil Nadu Governor has not taken any steps to release them, due to which she was in agony, Arbuthammal told reporters here.

In view of this, she has decided to tour entire Tamil Nadu seeking the support of the people, who always stood by her and continue till the Governor affixes his signature on release order, Arputhammal said.

When asked whether she was willing to meet Governor (Banwarilal Purohit), she said that she had already met him some tine ago and he had said "I will do it." But so far he has not not taken action, which is painful, she said.

All political parties, be it ruling or opposition, have supported her in the struggle to get Perarivalan released, she said, adding that she was told that the Centre cannot interfere in this matter.

Stating that she and her family members were very eager to celebrate Pongal with Perarivalan, who however did not turn up this year, she said " I am 71 year old and expect to celebrate Pongal with the son at least next year".
