Some unidentified miscreants tried to break open the South Indian Bank ATM behind the Coimbatore railway station, opposite the Royal Theatre this morning.

At the time of the incident, some persons passing by that area by car saw intruders trying to break open the ATM. They stopped the car and shouted for help from the public.

On seeing this, the intruders fled the place within no time.

Based on the complaint given by the public, B12 Ukkadam police registered a case and a search for the accused is on. Police said that they had been repeatedly asking the bank authorities to employ some security personnel.

They added that some banks did not follow security instructions and it was not possible for the police who had a large area to patrol to control such types of incidents.
