The management of the Avinashilingam University has postponed the supplementary exams in the wake of continuous protests by the faculty and the students. The new dates will be announced soon.

The protest took a new turn on Friday with the arrival of the Chairperson and Managing Trustee of Sri Krishna Group of Institutions, S. Malarvizhi. Her attempts to work out a truce between the management and the protesters failed and strikes continued till Saturday.

The management showed a copy of the documents related to the Memorandum of Association (MoA) that was signed between them and the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) to a representative of the protesting faculty members, but refused to given a copy to them.

“The management had stated in the document that the Avinashilingam Trust, which runs the institution, will be the sponsoring society and this makes the institution a self-financed body,” a faculty member told Covai Post. She added that the faculty and the students would resume the protest after the Diwali holidays.

Meanwhile, at the request of the faculty, the institution had postponed the supplementary examinations, that were supposed to be held from November 7 to 14. New dates have not yet been announced in order to avoid confusion among the students.
