Bharathiar VC bail plea hearing on Feb 8

Coimbatore: The Special Court of Prevention of Corruption Act, here today posted the hearing on the bail petition filed by tainted Bharathiar University Vice-Chancellor A Ganapathy, arrested on bribery charges, to February 8.

When the case came up for hearing this morning, Special Judge John Mino posted it to Thursday and directed the Government to respond to by that day, as sought by the public prosecutor.

Ganapathy was caught red-handed by Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption officials while accepting chemically treated currency worth Rs 1 lakhand cheques worth Rs.29 lakh on February 3. He was odged in the Central jail, along with chemistry professor Dharmaraj, who reportedly brokered the deal. Director of Distance Education in the University, Mathivanan is also likely to be included in the case, police said.

Meanwhile, inquiries wewe likely with more than 70 persons recruited by Ganapathy, after he took over in 2016, even as the Association of Self-Financing Colleges sought a CBI inquiry into entire episode.
