Coimbatore : Anticipating a sure defeat in the Lok Sabha polls, BJP is trying to mislead the people by raising the citizenship issue of AICC President, Rahul Gandhi, TNCC president, K S Azhagiri said Sunday.

Talking to reporters at the city airport, Azhagiri said that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi was changing his political stance sensing fear and ‘unnecessarily’ raising the issue about Rahul Gandhi and his citizenship.

The BJP has no achievements of its government to show for the last five years and was forced to seek votes in the name of soldiers who died in the Pulwama attack and surgical strike, he alleged and asserted that Congress will win ‘enough number of seats’ and form the next government at the Centre.

Joining issue with BJP State president, Tamilisai Sounderarajan for her reported remarks that no Congressman visited the State during Thane cyclone, Azhaagiri reminded her that the then home minister, P Chidambaram had visited the affected areas.

Terming the ruling AIADMK government as a puppet in the hands of the BJP, he said that it will learn lesson on May 23, the day of Lok Sabha results and also by-elections in the State.

The AIADMK was deliberately postponing the local body elections fearing defeat, he said.

Earlier, there was a minor argument between two groups of Congress, as the leaders of one faction were not allowed to meet Azhagiri at the lounge on his arrival, police said.
