Coimbatore : A 59-year-old brain dead private school sports teacher gave new lease of life to seven persons, after his vital organs were harvested and transplanted on them. Sachithanandam from Hosur in Krishnagiri district fell unconscious due to high blood pressure and brain hemorrhage in his house on November 5.

He was rushed to the Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH) here.

However, he did not respond to treatment and was declared brain dead on November 7

Sadhidanandam’s wife Sivakamasundari came forward to donate his organs. Accordingly, liver, kidneys, eyes, bone and skin were harvested on Thursday, a KMCH statement said.

The liver and kidneys were transplanted to patients at KMCH, while the bone, skin and eyes were sent to private hospitals here, KMCH chairman Dr Nalla G Palaniswami said.
