The stage at Vivanta by Taj Surya was set for the Coimbatore regional round of the Tata Crucible Corporate Quiz 2015. The audience was eager to witness Coimbatore’s young corporate minds battle it out for their space in the Zone Two finals that will be held in Kolkata this October.

Without wasting any time quizmaster Giri Balasubramaniam a.k.a. Pickbrain, enlightened the participants about the rules of the quiz, and the first round began. The format of the quiz was simple. There were three rounds and all of them were buzzer rounds. The team that hit the buzzer first was given the opportunity to answer the question. Every incorrect answer saw the team attract negative points.

The questions were from categories like literature, sports, and the corporate world. The questions included some pretty interesting ones like ‘Which great person wrote with the pseudonym HA Large Lamp?’ The answer to this question was Alexander Graham Bell, which the Chennai Silks team got right. There were questions on the Wright Brothers, Tupperware brand, Ritz, Carnival Films Limited, among others, in the audio-video format and plain question format.

It was a close fight between Chennai Silks team and the team from Brookefields. The audience support was almost equally divided. The formidable team from Chennai Silks, who had won the title for the past five years, looked like they would walk away with the regional title this year as well. However, a series of incorrect answers saw the team drop to second place.

The father-son duo of M. Balasubramaniam and Ashwin from Brookefields proved that they were tough nuts to crack. Having answered almost all the questions right throughout the quiz, this team was declared the winner of the Coimbatore regional round.

There was an air of excitement when Tata’s brand ambassador Narain Karthikeyan took the stage. Son of Coimbatore, Narain said that competitions call for a good amount of preparation. “Preparation is important part of any sport and contest. Put 100% of your effort and success will be yours.” he said.

The chief guest for the evening, Narain Karthikeyan also gave away the prizes. The winning team walked away with a cash prize of Rs.75,000. The runners up took home a cash prize of Rs.35,000.
