The search committee for shortlisting the next Vice Chancellor of Bharathiar University (BU) will be formed soon.
The search committee, consisting of nominees from the senate, syndicate and one from the Governor, will shortlist three eminent persons and the chancellor will appoint one of them as Vice Chancellor.
As per the university act, the syndicate has to select its nominee there months before the incumbent’s tenure ends. The selection of the nominee was on the agenda for its meeting on July 21, but it was decided to take it up at the next meeting.
The BU senate has already nominated V. S. Veluswamy, former principal of Dr. SNS Rajalakshmi College of Arts and Science. The syndicate will choose its nominee on August 24 at its meeting. The Governor-Chancellor will also name his nominee soon.
After the syndicate chooses its nominee, the name will be sent to the Government and the Governor-Chancellor. The Higher Education Department will then constitute the search committee, which will begin the selection process for the new Vice Chancellor.
The term of the present incumbent, G. James Pitchai, ends on September 20.
