The Forest Department has placed an iron cage to trap a tiger on the prowl in a village coming under Anamalai Tiger Reserve in the district for the last couple of days.
The residents of Thampapathy were living in fear, following the sudden appearance of
the tiger. It took away a calf, tied in the backyard of a farmer’s house, a few days ago.
Though the Department has fixed cameras at strategic points to monitor the movement
of the animal, people wanted to trap it.
The villagers have been asked to exercise caution and not move out in the early hours or late in the evening, to avoid attacks from the tiger. The village is surrounded by bushes that act as a hideout for the animal and the Department is taking efforts to bring the tiger into the cage, they said.
