Coimbatore : Dravida Vidhuthalai Kazhagam (DVK) Wednesday urged police to register a case under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Amendment Act against a suspended headmistress of a primary school in the city for allegedly calling students by their caste and asking to clean toilets.

DVK functionaries, led by secretary Nirmal Kumar, met city Police Commissioner Sumit Saran and submitted the recorded version of headmistress Jayanthi abusing children, referring to their caste name.

In the audio, Jayanthi was asking a girl student on seeing her vomiting whether she had conceived. The parents along with a few students petitioned District Collector K Rajamani on Monday seeking immediate action against Jayanthi for her casteist slurs against students of a particular community.

She used to snub students by saying they were born in a low caste and would not have good qualities, the parents alleged in the petition.

Based on the complaint and followup reports, Jayanth was placed under suspension yesterday.

Though suspended, she could be reinstated after some time and in view of this, legal action should be taken DVK said.
