“Centre to include Thirukkural in curriculum”: BJP MP

The Centre is in the process of including Thirukural in curriculum in colleges, BJP MP Tarun Vijay, said on Saturday.

In an effort to promote Thirukural, the Central Government is taking steps to install a statue of Thiruvalluvar in Haridwar and is in the process of including Thirukural in curriculum in colleges, Tarun Vijay told media persons here.

“Me, along with college students would soon take out a rally in villages of Tamil Nadu to present Thirukural,” Tarun Vijay, here to pay homage to freedom fighter V O Chidambaram Pillai on his 144th birth anniversary at the Central Prison, said.

He said that his party was remembering Tamil icons and taking efforts to spread Tamil literature, and the efforts were not aimed at getting political mileage.

“The Narendra Modi led government is also taking efforts to include in syllabus the sacrifices, achievements of Velu Nachiyar, Raja Rajacholan and other great personalities from the State, Tarun Vijay stated.

C hidambaram Pillai, popularly known as VOC was first to give indigenous ship service to Sri Lanka from Tuticorin and his birth day falls on September 5.
