City-based hearing impaired person receives national Role Model award

A hearing impaired person from the city was presented the National Award of Role Model for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.

The award, carrying a citation, was presented to K Murali, Director, Deaf Leaders Foundation, by President Pranab Mukherjee on 3 December at a function in Delhi. Murali is involved in rehabilitating and imparting training for persons with disabilities for the last 36 years.

Murali is also involved in promoting the Indian sign language, a release from the Foundation said today.

“His extensive efforts and achievements in the rehabilitation of persons with disabilities despite his own physical limitations makes him the ‘role model’ for others and worthy of the National Award,” the citation read.
