Showing an improved performance, compared with the previous years, as many as 27 percent of the government schools in Coimbatore have secured centum results in the recently released Class X results on Wednesday.

The centum results of aided schools, self-financing, Adi Dravida Welfare Schools, and corporation schools have also increased. But, matriculation schools have shown a decline in centum results.

Out of the 515 schools in all the categories, 49 percent, or 250 schools, have produced centum results. Students from 145 government schools appeared for the exams. Improving from the previous years, as many as 39 schools have secured 100 per cent results. In 2015 around 26 schools have achieved the feat.

Meanwhile, 21 aided schools, seven self-financing schools, four corporation schools, three Anglo-Indian schools, two Adidravidar Welfare Schools, and a social welfare school have also produced 100 percent results.

However, from 187 schools in 2015, the numbers of matriculation schools with 100 percent pass results have reduced to 173 of the total of 255 schools.

The total number of subject-wise centum results has declined by a considerable margin in all the subjects. While the number of centum in English has drastically declined from 76 in 2015 to 12 this year, the number of centum in Science too has come down dramatically from 7024 to 1216. The decline was comparatively small in Social Science (from 3344 to 3088) and Mathematics (from 1866 to 1413). There was no centum in Tamil.

The District has however given an overall improved performance of 0.57 percent, increasing from 95.65 per cent to 96.22 per cent. Out of the 43445 students who wrote the Class X exams, 41803 have successfully cleared the exams.
