Everyday is Women’s Day in Coimbatore, with the state and the district being headed by women, Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and Ms. Archana Patnaik respectively. But, the International Women’s Day calls for special celebrations, and Coimbatore is more than prepared to celebrate the spirit of women on the special occasion.

Celebrations have already started with one of the shopping malls in the city felicitating four women who have made a contribution towards the society.

Tomorrow, on March 8 Women’s Day will be celebrated across multiple locations in Coimbatore city. Ever since Hotel Le Meridien opened its doors to the public, it has been a tradition of this hotel to celebrate Women’s Day. Tomorrow, March 8, the hotel has plans of celebrating this day with the women achievers of Coimbatore city. “About 40 women who have made their contribution in various sectors like education, health, social work, and entrepreneurship have been invited to our hotel. Keeping the women’s interests in mind, we have planned an evening packed with activities tomorrow,” Arun Kumar Raman, Assistant Sales Manager, Le Meridien, says.

Le Meredien has plans of hosting an informal session for their women invitees. Each and every invitee will be treated as the chief guest for the evening. There will be an ice-breaking session where the women will introduce themselves and talk about their journey of being a woman. The team of chefs from Le Meridien will demonstrate the art of making the perfect café` latte, and the women will be given an opportunity to try their hands at it. This will be followed by a demonstration of making the different variety of éclairs by the chefs. The evening will conclude with high-tea.

Also celebrating the spirit of women is Art Houz, Jennys Residency. “We promote and support art and artisans. Tomorrow, we are highlighting the works of several women artists and creative women from various professions,” Bridget Shibu, Operations Manager of Art Houz, Jennys Residency, Coimbatore, says. About 15 women, including a photographer, fashion designer, classic dancer, singer, doctor, educationist, film director, and social worker will be honoured and felicitated. The women have been invited for high-tea where they will spend some quality time with each other too.

Homemakers too can celebrate Women’s Day. Elgi Ultra, the home appliances company, is currently running a contest dedicated to women on their Facebook page. The company has invited women to share why they feel proud of being a woman. The best entries will win gifts and prizes. So far the response to this online contest has been good and the answers range from emotional to humorous.

Instead of doing different things on Women’s Day, Residency Towers is doing things differently tomorrow. “We are all set to honour, appreciate and recognize the work that our women staff has (and continue to) put in with us. We will celebrate Women’s Day with the 60 women employees who are a part of our team. The evening will be dedicated to them and it will be their day,” Erin Louis, General Manager of the Residency Towers, says.

The women employees of this hotel have been invited by the management who has planned celebrations that include a motivational talk and a lecture on women empowerment. Two women-centric movies will be screened and the management has also made arraignments for high-tea for the women.
