Coimbatore firm Jayem Automotives to launch electric cars soon

Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives is to come out with its Neo brand of electric cars soon.

The 48-volt car will be assembled and marketed by Jayem Auto which has and has entered into a strategic tieup with Tata Motors. On full charge, the AC car with run 150 km.

“Neo is powered by an electric drive system developed and supplied to Jayem by Electra EV, a technology company which develops and produces electric drive systems. The first batch of cars will be supplied shortly,” Jayem Automotives Managing Director J Anand said.

The government has set an ambitious target of having only electric cars by 2030. Many automakers are joining the race and electric vehicles will soon become the hottest industry trend in the country, he said.

As part of this, automobile manufacturers were setting up of charging infrastructure, human resource development, including training for after-service technicians, and systems for appropriate treatment of end-of-life batteries, Anand said.

Jayem is a new age automotive company with expertise in design, development, prototyping and production of exciting performance variants of automobiles and its associate motorsport company manufactures one of the fastest Formula racing cars for MRF in Asia, he said.
