Coimbatore woman wins bronze in discus throw

Coimbatore : A 50-year-old city woman has won the bronze medal in the discus throw at the first National Women’s Master Athletic Championship 2019 organised by Goa Masters Athletic Association.

Jaya Mahesh won the bronze medal in 50 years plus category at the three-day athletic event which concluded on June 30 at Bambolim athletic stadium in Goa. It was jointly organised by Sports Authority of India.

Jaya Mahesh told reporters on Saturday that she very recently read a quote “Push your boundaries, that’s what they’re there for”

“I found this line extremely inspiring and nudging me to explore the unexplored.

“As the first timer, I won a bronze medal in discus for Tamil Nadu and qualifying myself for the Asian Championships to be held in Malaysia this year,” she said..

Jaya expressed her gratitude to coach Narayanan of Gold Crust Throw Sports Academy here.

Narayanan, who was also present said Tamil Nadu was emerging a leader in discus throw event of late.

“We create more awareness for discus throw events and give more importance to make more winners in this event global level,” he added.
