Coimbatore : Working inside tanks and chambers is always risky. And nowadays, the number of confined spaces at the Coimbatore site has increased. Periodic cleaning and maintenance work is happening inside these closed spaces. That’s why SUEZ decided to organise a special safety and rescue training to prepare the ground staff and engineers for such conditions.
The training was held at Ramakrishna Puram Tank, North Zone, and was conducted by Mr. Praveen, a certified safety trainer from KARAM, a well-known safety training company. Around 50 participants from the execution and engineering teams took part.

Unlike usual classroom-style sessions, this one was fully hands-on. Workers were shown how to inspect a confined space, how to wear harnesses and other safety gears and how to act during an emergency. Everyone got the chance to practice with real equipment.

The Tripod Rescue Demo was the main highlight. A mock rescue was done right in front of the team using retrieval fall arrester, winch and other safety gear. It wasn’t just for show. Each step had to be precise. Participants could feel the pressure, like in an actual emergency.
Mr. Pankaj Kumar, Safety Manager, supervised the session and ensured full support from the safety team.

Mr. Sangram Pattanayak, Project Director of the Coimbatore 24×7 Water Project, addressed the team and said, “Safety is not a one-time activity. It’s a daily habit. For confined space activity from checking the gas inside a tank to wearing the right safety gear and arrangement of rescue equipments – every small thing counts.”

The session ended with a Q&A where participants raised doubts about real field challenges. Trainers gave clear answers based on field situations, not textbook theories.

This training was not just a tick mark. It was a needed step to make sure all field teams are ready for confined space work—with the right awareness, gear, and confidence.
